Molded paper pulp or molded fiber is popular packaging material. It is used in support packaging applications, packaging electronic equipment, cellular phones and household items with containers, etc.
Usually, molded pulp packaging tools are made using metal tools that are mirror images of the finished package. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) provides an alternative method for producing molded pulp tooling which can dramatically reduce cost with time savings and improved the appearance for the finished product. FDM also eliminates the need for expensive tooling and additional processes such as drilling holes in the creation to draw the vacuum. The FDM preferred materials are ABS–M30 and polycarbonate (PC).
